Quick Guide To Limiters

Limiters are a form of compressors but with a threshold that doesn't have any give. Whereas a compressor's threshold will have some give.
All limiters are compressors, but not all compressors are limiters.
Ceiling - Also known as the output. This sets the maximum possible output.
Gain - Lets you add gain to the incoming signal. The limiter will "limit" the output signal to the max level.
Release - Sets how fast it takes for the limiting to stop after the signal drops below the ceiling. Shorter release times can be punchier & louder, while faster release times can give a cleaner result.
Attack - Not all limiters have an attack parameter, but it's connected to the behavior of the release parameter & it sets how quickly the release behavior will set in.
With fast attack times the release will build up quickly; with slow attack times, it will slowly build up.
Look ahead - This sets how quickly the limiter will respond to sudden peaks. You're basically letting the limiter "lookahead" into the future. Giving your limiter a heads up to what's about to happen.
Oversampling - Reduces the amount of aliasing & inter sampling peaks. Oversampling can help you push your limiter more.
True Peak - Ensures audio will match the output when when the digital signal is converted to analog.
Dither - Increases the overall noise floor of your audio. If you're mastering for streaming platforms, you probably won't need to do this.
LUFS Meter - Loudness Units Full Scale. This is the most common meter when mastering. It does a really good job displaying the overall perceived loudness.
